Creating Characters through Engineering

Creating Characters through Engineering

5 Axis CNC Machining – The possibilities are endless.

Sometimes a job comes along that just sets it apart from anything you’ve ever done in the past. For the team at Penti-M Engineering, this happens quite regularly thanks to our ‘can-do’ attitude and innovative approach to complex projects that most businesses would shy away from.

In 32 years, Director of Penti-M, Wayne Keleher has seen his share of diverse jobs but it’s possible this latest project takes the cake for the most impressive.

THE CONCEPT: Create 5 x individual and unique emu heads for a new masterpiece at the already impressive Emu Park foreshore.

THE CHALLENGE: Manufacturing 1 off, complex 5 Axis shapes from billet aluminium locally in Rockhampton.

THE SOLUTION: Trusting the team at Penti-M Engineering to handle the intricate process and delivering a world-class finished product!

Penti-M was selected for this project thanks to our 5 Axis CNC capabilities and our experience with complex projects. It’s been a busy time behind the scenes with special tooling being design and manufactured, upgrading our CAM software and providing advanced training to our staff to ensure the most efficient programming and manufacturing for this project.

From concept to reality, the process involves the latest technology to create such amazing finished pieces. From creating, designing and modelling the different heads in SolidWorks, generating the CNC programs and tool paths using HyperMill and machining the billet aluminium in our 5 Axis Mazak Integrex.

We are extremely proud of this project and thankful for the opportunity for these pieces to be manufactured locally in Rockhampton. In a time when regional manufacturing is so important it is a great privilege to complete another “MADE IN ROCKHAMPTON” and “MADE IN AUSTRALIA” project.

These unique and quirky emu heads will soon be on display at the Emu Park foreshore and will be a part of the precinct for many years to come. We strongly encourage both locals and tourists to stop by Emu Park for a closer inspection and a photo with your favourite character!
